Open Folder (Folderviewer)

Offers many options for displaying content in useful ways that go far beyond what can be done with a traditional HTML editor. If you can master the Folder Viewer, you will have mastered many of the advanced techniques possible with Caravel. Be on the look out for the new folder viewer which will be in the next release of Caravel. Some of the layout will change but even more options will be available to show your files.

Common uses for Folder Viewer blocks:
  • Displaying randomized photos
  • Displaying the contents of an archive
  • As a strategy for delivering a large number of documents without making a page for each document.
  • Displaying the most recently uploaded file or files.
  • For blog-style content
  • For scheduling content where one file is replaced by another on a particular date.

Folder Viewer Basics
To create a Folder Viewer block, choose Open Folder from the Add Block menu on the Edit Column bar. This will bring up the Folder Viewer window.

1. From the Add Block Menu on the Edit Column/Header/Footer bar Add block icon , choose Upload File.

2. Navigate to the folder you want to display and click the radio button to select that folder. Click the Select Folder button to continue.  If you do not have a folder with items in it already you can create one in the file manager and then add files to it after you have created it in the folder viewer.

3. Select Your Settings.

4. Edit File List. This window allows you to re-order files in the folder, hide files you don't want to display and set expiration dates.

5. Preview. Clicking the Preview tab lets you see how your choices look without leaving the Folder Viewer.
